WILDLIFE IN LOCKDOWN!

News articles have highlighted the way that wildlife has benefited from the vastly reduced numbers of people out and about over recent weeks. Two male Orcas have even been seen in Strangford Lough.

Whilst much of this has been a positive side effect, some troublesome species have also thrived. With additional time at home and in the garden, there are more sightings of insects and animals which can add further stress in this difficult time.

Alan Forbes will explain what we can normally expect to see at this time of year – as well as some of the typical problems and how to avoid them. Also what surprises might you expect if you are planning to reopen after your business has been closed during the lockdown.

Alan is the Technical Director at HygieneZone, a family business specialising in Pest Control along with Food Safety training, auditing services. Alan is a qualified Biologist with 40 years experience at all levels in Pest Control and is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

HygieneZone has operated an accredited Environmental Management System since 2006 winning 3 Awards for this over the years. In addition, the team at HygieneZone are also among few Pest Control Technicians in Northern Ireland have Wildlife Aware recognition.

The perception for many is that Pest Control is about “killing things” however in HygieneZone this is always considered the last resort. Alan says, with this approach we are proud to have been able to work with clients such as the National Trust to help at environmentally sensitive locations.
